Moss and green film make pavers, tiles and wood dangerously slippery, certainly in winter. We clean deep, until the moss is out of the joints, and re-sand the joints. That keeps your driveway, terrace or outdoor steps clean and safe for a long time.
Damp, shade and sand: by the sea, moss has everything it needs. In the shade of a hedge, a wall or a garage a driveway never dries out completely, and in the joints between pavers moss finds a hold. A superficial rinse helps for a few weeks; the roots stay.
We clean with a surface cleaner under high pressure, so the moss comes loose down into the joints and there are no streaks. Cobbles and natural stone need an adapted pressure; wood we clean at low pressure. In Knokke we cleared the moss from a driveway in concrete pavers, a cobbled ramp with outdoor steps and the ramp of a shared garage; in Heist the terraces around a property; in Ostend a paver terrace that we then re-jointed.
With every clean the jointing sand washes out a little. We re-sand the joints, so the pavers stay firm and weeds and moss find a hold less quickly. A visit in autumn, before winter, keeps a driveway in the shade safe; in the sun one visit every few years is enough.
Steps or a ramp down to a garage are where people slip first. We always include them, together with the drainage channels and gullies, so the water drains again and no puddles are left to freeze.
